Sarah - 41 Weeks Pregnant
I woke at 12:30am on May 2nd with a strong “braxton hick” and thought I would get up to use the bathroom, a few more strong braxton hicks followed so I decided to have a bath and listen to my birthing playlist of Radiohead discography.. I started timing the cramps, it was apparent this wasn’t ‘braxton hicks’ and that they were real and were coming every 2 minutes lasting 45seconds..
I woke Steven up at 2am and tried to explain to him that it was go time, he got all emotional so I firmly told him he would have to save that for later as I was needing help getting dressed :P
Called the midwife and umm’d and ahh’d on when I should go in.. after having 3 contractions within 5mins on the phone to her it was best decided to go in and get checked at the Mater.
Woke up a sleepy lil Juliet, Steve shaved his beard (THANK YOU) and threw the bags in the car and started on an epic journey… It was all quite manageable until we turned onto Stanley Street and I HAD to push.. my waters exploded out the front of Seventh Circle Tattoo as Steven was safely driving really fast, thankfully we had a great run with minimal red lights.. Her head started crowing as we turned into the hospital and by the boom gates her head was out.. We stopped briefly to pull my pants down as I honestly thought she was fully out :P It was just her head! Continued the next 20meters where Steven ran like a girl to alert the staff.. he ran back all a bit more manlier and came straight to my door and stunned face and calmly told me to “push baby” .. So with Juliet excitedly leaning over my shoulder and Steven with his newly acquired midwife status, I pushed out little Iggy into Steven’s arms :) I had good length on her cord so he was able to hold her till the staff casually walked out half a minute later.. haha..
It was all very casual and we made jokes with the midwives as I hobbled out onto a wheelchair and was taken into the delivery room to essentially hang out..
Got settled onto the bed and started to breastfeed to help my placenta come out, massive success! Steven then cut the cord and we all just sat there in awe and disbelief in what had just happened.. We are still very much in that state now!
Got the ok from the doc’s and we were out of there 4 hours after she was born.. Was glorious to be at home and enjoy a hot milo together while we introduced her to her new world.
She is perfect.. As crazy as it all was, I wouldn’t change a thing.. it was never scary and Steven was the most amazing support.. I LOVE giving birth.. I love our little family.. ♥ I got the completely natural birth I have longed for!!!
